Organic baby product supplier Beaming Baby has become the first UK toiletries producer to switch to using 100% recycled plastic bottles â?? setting a high standard for personal product manufacturers. Its own-brand shampoo, bubble bath and baby lotion is now supplied in eye-catching yellow, blue and pink bottles â?? all of which are made from 100% recycled plastic, or PET, and cutting down the companyâ??s carbon emissions. The products can be bought online at www.beamingbaby.com or via the companyâ??s catalogue. Innocent drinks is the only other UK supplier to use 100% recycled plastic bottles as packaging. Managing Director Charlie Wynne said: â??We are extremely proud that we have successfully switched to using 100% recycled plastic â?? and the bottles can be recycled again. We believe this packaging fits really well with our organic range of products and is part of our carbon neutral campaign.â?? Beaming Baby looked at using degradable plastic bottles, but opted for recycled. â??The downside of degradables is that they do use a big chunk of virgin oil to make them, so carbon emissions are not reduced,â?? said Wynne. The company, based near Totnes in south Devon, is working with the Carbon Trust to cut its carbon emissions. â??We are analysing every aspect of our business â?? transportation, sourcing, processing, for all the products we supply. We have already changed to using only recycled packaging and we only use green electricity in our office and warehouse,â?? said Wynne. The recycled bottles are a hit with customers and Beaming Baby has kept the price the same despite a slightly higher production cost, because it has seen a large increase in sales volumes. â??The only problem we have is that the colour varies depending on what bottles people are recycling. In Germany, for example, water bottles have a blue tint, whereas in France and here they are green. So the shade of the finished product varies a bit depending on where the original plastic bottles come from. But the product inside is exactly the same,â?? says Wynne.
