BBC Thread Launches UKâ??S First Ethical Fashion Style Search

BBC Learning has launched StyleSearch, a competition to find the UKâ??s most stylish and ethical dressers. The competition is part of Thread (www.bbc.co.uk/thread/stylesearch), the BBCâ??s online ethical fashion magazine which shows people how to get an eco-glam look through a unique mix of affordable fashion, videos, photo galleries and features. Thread is challenging fashion lovers to style an ethical look from a mixture of organic, fair trade, vintage, recycled or customised clothes. The winner will get the chance to spend a day with a top stylist at London Fashion Week in September, assisting with the styling of the Thread fashion show. Entrants must submit one photograph of either themselves, or a friend, that they have styled, together with a short statement explaining why the outfit is ethical. Entries will be accepted online at www.bbc.co.uk/thread/stylesearch and the closing date is 12 noon on Tuesday 26th August 2008. Konnie Huq, BBC Thread reporter and ethical fashion fan said: â??Style Search is for everyone, no matter what their style or budget. It is all about being creative, eco-glamorous and expressing yourself through ethical fashion.â?? â??Weâ??re a fashion conscious lot here in the UK, with a huge variety of tastes and styles. Iâ??m really looking forward to seeing what the nation comes up with â?? putting together an eco-fabulous outfit requires that little bit of extra creative flair and imagination. Weâ??re hoping for a huge range of entries, from fashion students to people who just love clothes and looking great, to show that ethical fashion is stylish, fun and for everyone.â?? A panel of independent industry professionals will judge the entries on their originality and creativity as well as the eco-credentials of the clothes which must contain some organic, fair trade, vintage, recycled or customised items. Thread magazine (www.bbc.co.uk/thread) will help entrants with their submissions with advice on the best way to photograph their outfit, a video with tips on how to style and information on conditions for entry, judging criteria and competition rules. The best entries will be short listed to four finalists who will travel to London in September to compete in a final styling challenge, from which the winner will be chosen. The final will take place during London Fashion Week between 14th -19th September and entrants must be available to travel to London between these dates. StyleSearch will run on Thread, the BBCâ??s online ethical fashion magazine until Tuesday 26th August.
