North Sea oil, Alberta tar sands in Canada, Gulf oil off of Texas, Middle east oil, Off shore oil off of Mexico.
All these areas produce a large portion of the worlds oil and employe litterally thousands of people. It would be political suicide to scale back on production in these areas as the politicians know that this would translate into many lost votes. But change must happen if we are to save our planet as according to many ecologists we may have about 25 years at best before we reach the point of no return. The mean temperature of the far north is already about 4 degrees above the 40 year average and many mammals including the polar bear are being threatened.
I just wonder what it will take to make the average person to realize that its either a little bit of pain and inconvenience now or alot of pain later on!

It is said if the world mean average temperature goes about 4 degrees the the entire ice cap in greenland would melt raising the world's oceans by around 2 feet. Not to mention increased drought in some areas like africa and increased rainfalls and typhoons in southeast asia!

Couple that with a capitalist world that is putting 25% of available fresh water into bottles and putting those into warehouses and other venues. Frseh water aquifiers on the coasts have been repeatedly charged with salt water from over use. We have to stop drilling oil, stop buying crap (ie cameras, new check books, anything plastic, or anything except non essentials) We need to scale back our production to around 10%....this will inevidably save all of you children from having to deal with the mass over population problem(if they themselves stop reproducing at an alarming rate) Many scientists believe that within 35 years we will have run out of oil that isn't to far down to extract, and NO "renewable" energy is actually renewable. Solar and wind all run on batteries, we would need something like 125 million tons of lead to just furnish for the U.S. Not going to work.
Now lets move on to what will happen when all sources of "renewables" are exhausted and we have no way to produce good in a capitalist society. Our government collapses, anarchy ensues. That may be the best thing....unfortunately, as scientists have predicted what will ensue they also have predicted how many people could live on a planet that has no fossil fuel...or any form of motorization. They have come up with a real crappy figure. 1 billion.....that is 1/6 what is here now. So in essence they are saying that 5 billion will have to die to make up the staggering surplus of people to food ratio work.
Ok I can't write on this is depressing the hell out of me. If it depresses you also then come check out the websites I got this info from.
I'll give ya some sites when I get my score above 30..:(

I am not sure about this, how can renewable be exhausted? I would have thought the word renewal means the same source can be renewed again and again
